CQA Magazine

The Canadian Quilter published an article entitled,' St. Jacobs Quilt and Fibre Art 2014!' Each guest shared a story and photo about her unique quilted pieces. This article provides an excellent overview of the show and encourages visitors to check the website www.st.jacobs.ca  January 2015. Marcy, the new editor has done an excellent job with page set-up and showcasing the titles.

Falling Leaves

A few years ago, Elaine Quehl had a display of her beautiful quilts at the St. Jacob's Quilt Museum.
Recently, Elaine  created a brand new line of fabric called Falling Leaves. This fabric distributed by Northcott makes you want to touch..because of the richness of colour, the real leaf look and the softness. Creative Sisters Quilt Studio sells this line.

Busy Hands Trunk Show

Monday, September 15th I presented a Trunk Show at the Preston Scout House. Sixty- five members of,'The Busy Hands Quilt Guild' were in attendance. What a delightful group of ladies- enthusiastic, receptive and encouraging. I was impressed with the beautiful collection of charity quilts and the show and tell items and stories. This guild has exciting plans for the 2014-15 year including a block of the month project and a sewer's quilted bag.

New Beginning!

The St. Jacobs Quilt Board met at Pix Martin's for a pot-luck dinner in her outdoor living space.This was an opportunity to share summer fun and kickstart events for twentieth anniversary happening in 2015. It was delightful evening....Our first meeting takes place, Thursday September 11 at 8:00. Keep tuned by reading this blog.

Blythe

Last week I attended 'Buck and Doe' at the Blythe Theatre. As a fundraiser, a quilt block challenge was initiated. Each block depicted a symbol significant of the 40th anniversary e.g., heart, home, peace, ruby. Enough blocks were completed to make two quilts. One quilt was hand-quilted, the second quilt was machine quilted. At the end of the season the quilts will be sold.

CQA

Last week I attended the CQA At Brock University. The Trend-tex challenge was delightful..the variety of fabrics in the kit certainly stimulated many quilters. The examples were creative  featuring traditional and modern applications. The juried and invitational sections showcased  excellent examples of Canadian quilters. The large number of vendors added to the delight of the show.

Millennium Quilt Guild Show/Mildmay

The Millennium Quilt Show was held in Mildmay last week. Diane Carson showcased a bed turning event featuring her beautiful quilts and sense of humour. Several beautiful quilts hung in the arena. Members of the guild sold several quilted items. Many vendors attended this show including the new Shoreline Fabric Store in Pot Elgin.My favourite quilt-

The Last Day

It is with mixed emotions the 19th St. Jacobs Quilt Shows The 50th anniversary Home Hardware Quilt moved to New Hamburg for the relief sale last night. It has left a void...visitors loved the creativity, use of ties and all the stories.The Merchant's Mall also closed last night. There is plenty to enjoy in the Village today..even sunshine and warmth. Thanks for supporting this wonderful event.

Thursday

St. Jacobs was rocking! Many visitors came to St. Jacobs to enjoy the many quilting venues. Rave reviews were heard for the trunk show, lunch at the Quilter's Cafe held at St. James Lutheran Church, Ron's willingness to help everybody and the pansies at the schoolhouse. ...and two left!!!

International visitors admired the quilts and interior decorating at the Schoolhouse as guests of Marion Martin. Two of the ladies had taught classes in Ailsa Craig last week and Chantal Guillermet from France who will be teaching classes this week at the  St. Jacobs Mennonite Church. What a treat to appreciate their enthusiasm.

Volunteer Tea 2014

'The Volunteer Tea'  kick-started,' The Quilt and Fibre Art Festival Waterloo Region and Beyond.' The atmosphere was filled with 'friendly warmth', big smiles and lots of chatter. Sue Parker decorated the tea room tables with lots of information about the history of St. Jacobs. Of course the delicious tea and wonderful treats added to the delight of the evening.

Martha's Stories

Martha Wiens from Leamington is the guest artist at the St. Jacobs Schoolhouse in two weeks. Yesterday her quilt stories arrived. Martha loves rework, embroidery and fancy stitches... often embellishing with beads and buttons. The quilt stories are exciting...filled with diversity, colour and love. Don't miss this delightful show.

St. Marys Quilt Show

Yesterday I attended the St. Marys Quilt Show. My favourite things- Judith Elder McCartney's personality dolls, the paint by-number fabric found at Greenwood Quiltery/ Guelph, a modern qui
lt featuring wonky wedges created and machine quilted by Shirley,owner of the Marsh Store/ Coldstream and a clamshell quilt displayed at the Kaleidoscope Store booth/Exeter. Members of the Stone Town Guild and the Perth Huron Quilter's Guild offered a large variety of traditional quilts.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter! It is time to get creative. The quilt show is just one month away. Talk to Wendy if you would like to hang a quilt at the Schoolhouse. Kathy Langill has enough vendors to fill all the spaces at the Merchant's Mall being held in St. James Lutheran Church. There will be opportunities to shop for fabrics, notions and even sewing machines. Look for the lunch booth, catered by the ladies of St. James Lutheran Church.

Visit to Home Hardware

The quilt blocks were assembled complete with sashing and a border. The finished quilt top was hung at The Home Hardware Distribution Centre in St. Jacobs for the annual Spring Market. Visitors enjoyed looking at the variety of homes. Sharp eyes tried to spot the HH logos. One man was wearing a tie made from similar fabric found in one of the Bow tie blocks.

Waterloo County Quilters Guild

Wednesday, March 19th I presented my trunk show entitled, 'Out of My Box' to the Waterloo County Quilter's Guild. What a delightful group of sewers! I was impressed with the ,'Show and Tell ' items
showcasing colour, skill and wows.This adventure has inspired me to find a new pattern! A recipe book published by this group offers some delicious choices.

Village Silo Display

A display has been set up at The Village Silos featuring quilts, examples of courses that will be taught during the week of May 26 to 29, guest artist photos and a few items related to the cigar ribbon quilt as well as an amazing table decorations. Brochures outlying the 2014
St. Jacobs Quilt Shows will be available. The quilt featured in the photo is entitled,' Jewel,' by Jacqueline de Jonge.

Olympic Fabric

Have you noticed the design wall in the arenas at the Olympic events? They  look like  elegant quilts. The fabric design showcases paisley, checks, stripes, polka dots on an  awesome background of blue. The completed pattern highlights triangles, squares and rectangles…with a pop of red. Colour variations can be spotted at the different venues. Get your sketch pad out Brandon Mably…. quilters would love to purchase this fabric line.

The kits for the annual Block Challenge are ready to be purchased. Check out Quilt Essential, The Quilters Nine Patch and Creative Sisters. This year's challenge honours Home Hardware's 50th anniversary and recognizes Walter Hatchborn, the original owner's passion for bow ties. Get creative! The blocks are due February 28th. Cancellation

During the fall Pix talked to Salome owner of Quilt Essentials in St. Jacobs about co-ordinating the annual bus to experience Mennonite culture in the quilt world. Salome was excited! This was an adventure she always wanted to initiate! Plans were taking place…an interesting place to eat, a business to explore, a secret surprise and a few door prizes. Unfortunately Salome fell on the ice……during her recovery period she can only dream about the 2015 tour. The St. Jacobs Quilt Board wish Salome a speedy recovery.
