Cherrywood Quilt Show

The Cherrywood Quilt Show featuring quilted pieces made by competitors for Cherrywood competition 2017. Each quilter completed a work representing  Van Gogh using one fat quarter of blue and other colours chosen by the Quilter. These quilted pieces were very artistic, showcased interesting use of fabric and a very imaginative quilter. This first show in Canada was sponsored by The Cotton Harvest Quilt Shop in Seaforth. Fat quarters of purple were sold today..hopefully a Canadian will be the winner of the 2018 competition.

Bernina Owner Visits

The owner, H.P. Ueltschi of Bernina sewing machines from Switzerland visited Creekbank Sewing Machine shop at Conn. He told us:
Bernina is named after a mountain in Switzerland
The name was chosen because it is easy to pronounce in many languages
The machines are only sold to specialized dealers
Bernina is recognized for its stitch
Vernon and Minerva  are recognized as number #2 salespeople in Canada.
Peter, the owner of Bernina Canada was also present.

Elmira Needle Sister's Guild

The International Ploughing Match will be held September 19- 23 in Walton. The annual pre quilt show will be held at The Seaforth Community Centre August 19-20, 2017 10-4pm. Country Side meets Coast Line offers a wide range of prize winning quilts. Mark your calendar.

Judging took place at the Listowel Fair yesterday. Several quilts and quilted pieces entered the competition. Several people were delighted with the judge'

Kincardine Garden Tour

Even the Kincardine Garden Tour featured quilts made by the homeowner. T

hey added a touch of warmth and and homeyness to the yard. Kincardine yards are exceptionally large, providing an excellent opportunity to showcase landscaping. The dogwoods provided a 'wow' with their colourful blooms.Tea at the Walker House featured Canada placemats, flags and dessert. Flower arrangements made by the Kincardine Horticultural Society were eye catching.

Canada Day 150

For 61 years, the village of Atwood has celebrated Canada Day without rain. One resident hung a red and white quilt on her porch railing for the 50th time. This special quilt contains the centennial logo as well as the names of all her family members.Wow!

Celebrating Ella

The St. Jacobs Quilt Shows Board presented Ella with a little appreciation gift in honour of all her hard work in creating the Marble Art Quilt. From the first sketch to the final unveiling, Ella's commitment to the project was tireless. Tourists to St. Jacobs have rave reviews.Thanks Ella.

Day 2

Exciting things happened at The Schoolhouse Theatre this morning. Twenty- seven little children from the St. Jacobs Mennonite Church came to visit. They walked through identifying objects they liked. One little girl spotted a dandelion..and she was bang-on! The children loved their Marble quilt..and had fun finding his/her own. The best part was enjoying a cup of water with lemon, sugar and a delicious snack.
The blooper opened up.What an amazing flower!

Alias Grace visits Volunteer Tea

Kathy Langill was commissioned to make a quilt to resemble the quilt referenced in Alias Grace
written by Margaret Atwood to be used by Netflicks. She shared highlights, frustrations, conflicting visions with a non-quilter boss and highlights. This six-part series will be aired starting September 25, 2017. Watch for Kathy's hand and her quilt.

Volunteer Tea 2017

Tonight marks the  beginning of the 2017 Quilt and Fibre Art Festival. During the week end volunteers worked hard to transform all the venues into beautiful works of art. Tonight the volunteer tea featuring Kathy Langill will be the 'kick off.' Sue  will serve many cups of  tea.
Hope to see you in St. Jacobs wearing a 'quilty smile.'

Quilt Show At St. Marys Museum

The challenge was to use a small piece  of Perth County's new tartan in each square. Approximately twenty squares were received.the st. marts Museum was an excellent venue for this show.

Marble Art Quilt

Unveiling

Saturday, May 13th the Marble Art Quilt was unveiled close to the Health Valley Walking Trail. The crowd cheered when they got the first glimpse of this amazing structure. Fortunately the sun shone, the marbles glistened and viewers smiled. Children loved the feel and sound. Visit  St. Jacobs and admire the first outdoor art piece placed in honour of Waterloo quilters.

Daycare Quilt

Each year the St. Jacobs Daycare Centre make a special quilt to be displayed  at the Schoolhouse.this year is no exception. The children made a marble quilt.....and when the children visit they will LOVE it. sue has the tea with lemon and sugar ready as well as some delicious treats.

Marble Art Quilt

The St. Jacobs Quilt Board commissioned an art piece for the village of St. Jacobs. The unveiling will take place at the entrance to the Health Walkway in St. Jacobs at 10:00 am.There will be a short ceremony.Everyone welcome. This is an amazing quilt.

Celebrating Canada's 150th

This year there will be a few quilted pieces celebrating Canada's 150th Anniversary. Fabric manufacturing companies have created some unique collections
representing Canada. Some of the companies have challenged quilters to use their fabrics and design a block. Look for some unique,'Made in Canada,' pieces. Pat Hogerwaard made this Canadian Flag using Val Carey Jenson's pattern,'Maple Leaf Rag.

Happy May! Unfortunately the sun is not shining. The 2017 Quilt and Fibre Art Festival /Waterloo Region is only 23 days away.The excitement is mounting!Tickets are selling quickly for the trunk show with Audrey Vrooman, the bus tickets are nearly sold out and the St. Jacobs Quilt Board has dotted all the,' I's,'and crossed the ,'T's.' Sue has ordered the delicious cookies.Most of the brochures have been distributed. I am frantically binding my last project.Mark your calendar..another unique quilt show is promised.

Elsa's Retiring

The Observer Woolwich and Wellesley Townships featured an  excellent article about Elsa Brigden Elliott's successful career as a weaver/retailer at the Village Silos in St. Jacobs. In June, Elsa will retire from the retail business but will continue to weave in her spare time. As a member of the St, Jacobs Quilt Board, Elsa has promoted fibre arts. During Quilt Festival Week Elsa's guest artists have received rave reviews. Drop into the silos to view her artistic talents.

Slab Quilts

The Elmira Needle Sister's Guild accepted the challenge to make Slab Quilts for Ronald McDonald House as part of the Canadian Quilter's 150th anniversary project. Each member was requested to make one block for a group quilt using a piece or several pieces of Canadian Flag fabric. These quilts or pieced tops will be displayed at the St. Jacobs Mennonite Church during the festival.

2017 Trunk Show

The 2017 Trunk Show will be held at St. James Lutheran Church, Thursday May 25 at 2:30 or 7:30. Audrey Vrooman, a talented, eclectic quilt maker will be sure to entertain with her interesting selection of quilts. Tickets will be available at the door. Guest Artist

Diane Carson from Exeter is the guest artist at The Schoolhouse Theatre, May 23-27, 2017. Her prize winning quilt entitled, 'Saltwater Pearls' is featured on the cover of the Canadian Quilter Magazine, winter 2017 issue. Diane, a long arm quilter used her artist skills to sew a different design in each pearl. This quilt must be seen up close to be appreciated.
